The meet, which features some of the best vaulters in the nation, saw Segroves go head-to-head with Mya Strahm, a sophomore from Elmwood, Illinois.
The two were the only competitors left when the bar reached 12'6", and they began a back-and-forth battle as the bar was raised two inches at a time. Both girls cleared 12'6", then 12'8", then 12'10", before both soaring over the bar at 13'.
The competition came down to a "death match" at 13'2", with Segroves and Strahm each missing their first attempts. Segroves missed her second attempt as well, while Strahm missed her second and final attempt. On her third and final attempt, Segroves dug deep and cleared the bar at 13'2", setting a new Mississippi state indoor record and becoming the highest-jumping Mississippi girl high school pole vaulter in history, indoor or outdoor.
With this win, Segroves is now ranked number one in the nation for sophomore girls.
